Start now by making sure you are listed on the voters roll. The following is advice from the Fife council web site

 "People who have changed their name or moved home recently are also at risk of not having a vote if they haven't let us know about their change in circumstance. If you are in doubt it's best to check your details on the Voters Roll either in person  at your local library, Local Services Centre or Electoral Registration Office in Glenrothes or  phone the electoral registration team on 08451 55 55 11."
